Honestly, it seems like going above the basic sharingan is kind of dumb. It literally starts to blind you the second you get phase two. But to even get phase 2 you have to kill you best friend. To counteract the blindness, you have to take the eyes from your brother. This just feels like it has too many drawbacks. Even phase 1 sharingan eats through a decent amount of chakra. Just for the ability to copy of few jutsu and cast a few illusions.
